How to Remove Google Account from Android Phone?
Some phone users added multiple Google accounts on their Android device, but having no clue on how to remove Google account without factory reset. For example:
“I have registered several Google accounts and logged them in on my Samsung S7, now I want to keep one yet delete the others, how to erase them?”
“My friend logged into her Gmail account through my Nexus phone to check an email. I can’t figure out how to delete her account from my phone, now leaving me ceaseless sign-in request notifications for her account.”
Since there are too many Android models in the world, the ways to delete Google accounts on Android devices would be different, which leads to a hassle to get this done. This article will describe at length on removing Google account under the situations as below:
- Situation 1. Follow the Common Path
- Situation 2. Get a Pop-up Message “Unfortunately Settings has stopped”
- Situation 3. Fail to Get the Three-dots Menu
Situation 1. Follow the Common Path
Now, let’s try to figure out how to remove Gmail account from your Android phone without factory reset via the following steps:
1. Go to Settings> Accounts> Google, I’m assuming you see your account(s) out there, right?
2. If so, then tap on one Gmail account. It should take you to a SYNC SETTINGS page where you’re supposed to be able to remove an account.
3. Hit the menu key on your phone that has three lines which should be at the bottom of your phone on the left side of your button, which will then pull up the ‘delete account’ menu option on the bottom left of the screen (Or some models will show three dots on the top right corner to list the “Remove account” option as below).
4. When you tap on “Remove account”, you’ll get a pop-up message to confirm it.
Situation 2. Get a Pop-up Message “Unfortunately Settings has stopped”
When some users go to Settings> Accounts> Google, and try to hit the Google icon to access the account, they receive the pop-up message: “Unfortunately Settings has stopped”, then they get put back to the main Settings page.
If you are confronted with this situation, I would like to suggest you opening the stock gallery app, press the menu button and then click on Settings to access the Google sync options. Now you can access the Google account sync options from there.
Situation 3. Fail to Get the Three-dot Menu
When you successfully get into Gmail account but find your phone doesn’t offer you the three-dot menu in manage accounts. Is there another way to remove the Google account on the Android device? The answer would be “Yes”, please check out the following steps:
- If there is an annoying Sign-in request notification, get rid of it.
- Go to your Gallery App > hit the Menu button > select CONTENT TO DISPLAY where you can disable the Picasa option (when you get rid of the useless accounts, you can re-enable that option if you want to see your Google+/Picasa pictures in your Gallery).
- If none of the above work, try long-pressing on the account while in the account screen or hitting the menu button in that screen to see if you get an extra menu.
- Go to Settings > General > Security > Device Administrators, and figure out if there is anything there that might be associated with the accounts. If so, that might be preventing you from removing them. After that, go back and check whether you can see the three dots/menu key or not.
In Conclusion
After you deleted the account, all of your Google contacts, text messages and other data will be erased from your phone. If you want to recover deleted files from your Android phone, you may turn to an Android recovery program for help. Supposing that you’ve finally failed to delete the extra Google account(s), then you have nothing to do but perform factory reset on your Android phone even though you’re not willing to.
